How To Make Room For Advent

diary of a media priest Dec 03, 2024

I’m typing this on my laptop in what used to be my coatroom. This tiny, overlooked space—once crammed with jackets and clutter—has become my winter office.

I no longer need to heat the entire house; I just keep this one cozy little room warm.

A desk, a chair, a monitor, and just enough room to breathe. It’s simple, but it’s quiet, snug, and free from distractions. In this nook, I’ve found the focus I need for writing and editing.

But transforming my coatroom into an office wasn’t just about moving furniture around. It was about making space for what truly matters—what deserves my full attention.

Advent is the perfect time to do the same in your life. Here’s how to begin:

Clear your physical space.
↳ Declutter one area of your home.
↳ Let go of things you no longer need.
↳ A tidy space creates calm and focus.

Reclaim your time.
↳ Identify habits that drain your energy (hello, endless scrolling).
↳ Trade them for moments of reflection, creativity, or connection.
↳ Small changes add up to hours of meaningful time.

Prioritize what fuels you.
↳ Set aside daily time for prayer, learning, or creative projects.
↳ Choose activities that nourish your soul, not just your schedule.
↳ Let Advent be a season of intention, not just preparation.

Advent isn’t just about counting down to Christmas.
It’s about preparing your heart and life for what truly matters.

How are you making room for the things that fuel you during this busy season?
