Why Would a Catholic Priest Write a Fantasy Novel?
On January 1, I embarked on the daunting journey of writing my first fantasy novel. I've written a couple of books and essays in the past, but now I’m tackling something I’ve dreamt about ever since I discovered Tolkien's Middle-earth as a teenager.
What if?
While traveling through Ireland in October last year, I heard fascinating tales of Irish saints confronting sea monsters, taming dangerous animals, and performing incredible miracles.
These legends sparked my imagination. What if all these stories really happened? This question became the foundation for my novel, aiming to bring a fascinating, often forgotten world to life.
A tale of two novices and an angel
My story is set in 6th century medieval Ireland. A young novice scribe in an Irish monastery finds his life turned upside down when the country’s most valuable book is stolen by a mysterious sect of dangerous mages.
Alongside a young nun and a shapeshifting angel, he embarks on a quest to recover the book, only to discover that the mages pose a far greater threat than he could have ever imagined.
